Framed Purple Owl

The purple owl (Caligo beltrao) is a species of butterfly found in Brazil. They have large eye shaped spots on the undersides of their wings, meant to mimic birds (specifically the owl) as a form of self defence against predators.

This specimen is framed in a handmade wooden shadowbox.
